Prom Themes

This morning while taking the kids to school, I was listening to "sad FM for the over 30s" (as Bridget Jones refers to Easy Listening/Light Rock). Lo and Behold, My Junior Prom theme came on the radio and it took me back. And made me giggle just to picture the whole thing. The year was 1990.

My prom theme was "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart. The painted/airbrushed background in front of which everyone stood to get their pictures taken? A carousel horse, complete with long flowing ribbons. Yikes! I wore a peach satin tea length dress. Can you imagine me in peach? Satin shoes dyed to match. And a lacy and pearly hair bow with peach ribbon. My date wore a white tuxedo with, you guessed, a peach cummerbund and peach bowtie. And white shoes, of course. Oh, and I carried a little lacy peach pearly bouquet.

Oh. My. God.

So tell me about your prom themes. Or better yet, make a blog post about it complete with prom picture. I would have put my picture here but I don't have any of them. Praise be.

Girl, I only went to my Senior prom with a boy I would have died for. You know how all encompassing the first love thing can be. I will have to try and figure out my scanner and get the photo into my blog. What a hoot.

PS My dress was peach too.

I can soooo picture that! Hehehe... but you have to remember, I knew you way back when...almost to then.

We didn't have a junior prom. Senior Banquet -- we weren't allowed to call it "prom" because if it was a prom there would be dancing and everyone knows what dancing leads to!! Anyway... I went dateless with a bunch of friends to the senior banquet and I wore a triangle-blocked (it was 1986) puff-shouldered black and white dress. And I had big hair (think Demi Moore in St. Elmo's Fire). Actually, as far as Eighties garb goes, it could've been a lot worse.

Tanjie, you really did know me nearly all the way back then. Aaww :-)

And I can completely picture you with the black and white dress and St Elmo's Fire hair.

And, no dancing? Lord, did you go to McCarthy High School?

You know I still think of you when I hear Edie Brickell. Lo, these many years later...

There are no pictures that survive around here either. lol.

My dress was cream colored. Off the shoulders with two little ties that tied on the shoulders it had a flap of frilly material that covered the boobies.
My date wore a cream colored suit also. We were so bland I'm surprised we even showed up on pictures.
I dated this boy for four years. First real love and all that.
A bunch of years ago I was at a small town street fair type things with my three kids and ran into him...with his BOYFRIEND. Yep, that explains a whole lot.

I went to SR. prom with the guy that is now my ex-husband. I tried to wear a tux, but it didn't fit. So I wore a knee length dress that was white with little pink flowers. It was actually quite pretty. No goofy prom dress nightmares for me. I have plenty of bridesmaids dresses for that.

I remember it well!

{Looking in digital files for incriminating evidence on AZ....}

Damn! I only have casual big hair/pinwheel bangs pictures of you, sis.

I don't have any of my pictures, either, thank god! rofl

I can't remember the theme to my Jr prom, but I went with Stephen as my "date." I say "date" because as some of you know and some don't, Stephen is flamingly gay, which is fine, but high school girls aren't usually happy about going to events that are supposed to be romantic with their totally gay friend. It makes them think they are too lame to find a straight guy who might actually care about what is under one's black and purple dress, instead of fixing your hair for you before the big even.

Senior prom was worse, if possible, because I was 18 and went with a friend's 15 yr old younger brother. He was at least straight and interested in getting under my dress, but I wasn't interested in going to jail. rofl

Oh, but Mother has all of them, so next time y'all are over, you can see them in all of their glory.
Jr prom was black and purple sequins, strapless with a skirt that was knee length in the front and floor length in the back.

Sr prom was royal blue sequins, off the shoulder. I had on black hose and black shoes. In retrospect, I wonder what I was thinking. My grandmother made the dress because I didn't want to spend $300 on a dress to wear once. I carried red roses and I looked like Miss BHS. rofl

I neede dto re do this comment and add in that I am digging on your Bridget Jones refs. I love that! and find myself privately doing that as well.

I have mementarily forgotten the theme song for our prom, but I looked like a fairy pricess for my prom. While every one else looked like sequin splash my personal theme was Isabella Rossalinis add for Lancom.

I got my makeup done by the Lancom lady that would do it for the next 10 years at least. THats probably one of my long lasting good things to come from prom.

My dress was a white silk brocade Jessica Maclintock (sp?) Damn I love that dress.

OMG - Amanda. Stephen and I should so have gone to my prom together as queen and queen. As I recall, her hair was a mess!

PG, I wonder how many of us actually had sex on pron night, as the stereotypes say we do. I got felt up, but no consummation.

Debbi, of course you went to prom with a gay boy!

And Amanda, as I was there and can picture you in your sequins and Stephen with all his hair(and your hair for that matter) I can say that I would love to see a pic of that night on your blog. And,yes, Sweet Bruhver and Stephen would have set the VBCC on fire with their queenly flames!

HRM, a tux? Just how butch are you? :-)

Susangalique, LOVE that you had a theme for your look. With whom did you go?

Um...we had been having sex for so long at this point that is was not as important as getting to sleep that night.

We both had to work early the next day.

And I am still trying to figger out the scanner so I can post a photo.
