You know how on your homepage you put the little weather thingies? You get to pick several locations? Know what I'm talking about? I was thinking that what I choose for those weather spots says alot about me. I just bet they say alot about everyone who uses them. Here are mine, and why:
-Nestlewood, obviously
-Peebles, Scotland because I should be living there as it is never hot and I just know there is a kilted Scottish laird there waiting for me
-Salem, MA, because I want to be there during the month of October every year, world without end
-Savannah, GA to reassure myself that somewhere in the US it is at least a little hotter and muggier than it is here in Alabama
-San Fransisco, CA, because that is where Sweet Bruhver lives now
-Blowing Rock, NC, because if I could move anywhere in the US, this would be where I would move
Cozumel, Mexico because we will be there next week and I want to make sure no hurricanes are going to get us

Last Meal
I was recently inspired to ask my nearest and dearest what they would eat if they knew that it would be their last meal. Not that they were being executed or anything, just fore-knowledge that the next meal would be the last one you would ever get. The results are fascinating.
For me, first, I would need a bottle of Bohemian Highway Chardonnay, my absolute favorite. I'd ignore salad, as that would waste valuable space in my tummy. I would have Flamin' Hot Doritos, smothered in cheese sauce made with Velveeta and jalepenos, to be dipped in refried beans and sour cream. For dessert, I would need Krispy Kreme donuts, slathered in butter and microwaved for 7 seconds each.
Chris said he would have an elaborate gourmet 7 course meal. He would have a different wine with each course. When I asked him to be more specific about the food choices he said "I don't know. Really, it's all about the wine."
TDB said that he would fly all his friends to the Royal Caribbean resort in Cancun, where we would all have Thai shrimp, wild mushroom soup, mixed baby greens with vinaigarette, grilled tuna, filet mignon, mashed potatoes and free range at Marble Slab Creamery. He would then eat cake batter ice cream and strawberries and white chocolate until he just keeled over dead.
Raybob said he is just like Garfield and would choose lasagna. Lasagna and a good hearty red wine and he would die a happy man.
Drew said that she would have a big smörgåsbord of stuff that was heavy on pizza and ice cream. I also asked my parents, Sweet Bruhver and Cameron, but they never said. Ahem...
So now I'm asking you. Tell me what you want what you really really want!

Random
1.I can't whistle, and people who whistle really well freak me out. I'm convinced they are serial killers. Can't you just imagine them whistling while they stalk or carve or bury their victims?
2.My mom's side of the family calls me "Pebbles" or "Pebs" because my Granny didn't like the name my parents chose for me.
3.I have big butch man-hands with short fingernails and thick fingers, but teeny tiny size 5 1/2 feet.
4.I read bass cleft music so poorly that I have to pencil in the individual notes alphabetically as A, B, C, D. etc...
5.I want so much to time travel, but would be too scared to do it because I'm just a hair's breadth away from being legally blind without my glasses or contacts.

Today's Post is Brought to you by the Letter "S" and the number 13
One of my favorite things to do is stitch while I listen to my iPod. Yesterday evening, I randomly twirled my thumb around on "songs" and let the chips fall where they may. Oddly, it landed on the letter "S",
specifically on the word "she". Turns out, I have 13 songs that begin with the word "she". Here they are:
She-Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians
She-Elvis Costello
She's Always a Woman to Me-Billy Joel
She's Gone-Hall and Oates
She's Got a Way-Billy Joel
She's so High-Tal Bachman
She's Sexy and 17-Stray Cats
She Belongs to Me-Harry Connick Jr.
She Blinded Me With Science-Thomas Dolby
She Is His Only Need-Wynonna
She Moved Through the Faire-Loreena McKennitt
She Moved Through the Faire-Celtic Woman
She Thinks I Still Care-James Taylor's version

7 1/2 inches
According to the theory that one's penis size can be measured by the span of one's hands, had I a penis, it would be 7 1/2 inches long.
I'm not quite 5' tall, so that thing would come halfway to my knees.
Nice.

Meanwhile...
The interview went well the other day. I had to take a 3 1/2 hour Coding test. So far, only one person in North Alabama has passed this test, as a score of 80 or above is considered a passing grade. The job itself is way more than what I saw myself doing while still wet behind the ears. I would be a concurrent coder, meaning that my job will be to go through the charts while patients are still in the hospital and figure out the appropriate DRG, querying physicians on a daily basis for more specific chart documentation. Eek! I had planned on a little hidey hole office at first, eventually moving into a big girl position like this one. We shall see. It all depends on my test score.
Until I get a call about my test score, I am hanging out at Nestlewood, blissfully watching movies, cooking, making candles and keeping my house clean as a whistle. Today I am watching Somewhere in Time. Christopher Reeve is so beautiful. I think I may be in love.
And just to show my random trivia knowledge, when Chris Reeves' character goes back in time to 1912 and wakes up in the hotel room? A lady is walking around getting dressed. She's humming "You made me love you ( I didn't want to do it)." This is quite the anachronism, as that song was recorded by Al Jolsen in 1913.

Trapped in the Closet
First of all, I realize I am showing that I am at least 10 years out of touch with everything by posting this, but I have just now discovered R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet". I will show even more what a mess I am because the way I discovered this was through Weird Al Yankovic's "Trapped in the Drive Thru". My kids are mad for Weird Al, so they search him out on YouTube all the time. Perfect mom that I am, I was listening to what they were doing on the computer, and became so chuckly that I had to go and watch this for myself. I am also a fan of Weird Al, in fact, it is I who introduced my children to him. Anyhoo, after watching Al's version, I needed to know the original, as his parodies are often su-pah genius. So, I found it on YouTube (all 40 minutes of it so far) and I have laughed until my stomach muscles are sore! I am also singing every nuance in my daily life, just like R.Kelly does. I have decided that I am going to do this henceforth. I'm going to hiphop/ghetto/sing everything that I do.

6 random things about me
1. My hair is so curly that it's 4 to 5 inches longer when wet (nearly to my waist) than when dry (just grazes the bottom of my shoulder blades).
2. I put either jalepeno peppers, crushed red peppers, or Tabasco sauce on nearly everything I eat.
3. Unlike most of the Northern Hemisphere, summer is my least favorite season. I wish it only lasted for about a month. I suppose I get an opposite version of Seasonal Affective Disorder, called RSAD, because all that sunshine makes me blue.
4. I have watched the North and South mini series from the 80s (starring Patrick Swayze and James Read) so many times that I can nearly quote the entire 10 hours of it word for word.
5.I have never lived in any state except Alabama.
6.I have no personal attachment to a vehicle, so I will drive whatever I have until it is completely dead and ready for the junkyard.

Pete's Dragon-Money By The Pound
Yes, this is Jim Dale, the Harry Potter books on CD narrator
I LOVE this movie. It's a little Harry Potter, a little Music Man, a little Beverly Hillbillies, a little Annie, Helen Reddy, a drunken Mickey Rooney. Really...what more do you need?
Also, a light house is one of my happy places. Specifically, what we see in Brazzle Dazzle Day (which can be found from this YouTube video), from this movie. I often see myself here, in this very lighthouse with the little cottage tacked on to the side of it.

Caffeine
I know that this is small potatoes in the scope of, well, everything. But I can't tolerate caffeine. 1/2 a serving of green tea and my hands are shaking and I have heart palpitations. A full cup of regular strength coffee and I can't even hold a pen to write my name. I really hate this. Coffee can be such a glorious thing. The smell, the taste, the jolt of energy. But I can't do it. I can drink decaf coffee, but I have heard icky stuff about the process of decaffeinating coffee. Crazy things like cat litter and, I don't know, formaldehyde and stuff. Is it true? Is decaf coffee really bad for you?
I don't drink Cokes either. In the South, all carbonated beverages are called Cokes. Sue me, you know what I mean. I don't like the caffeine, the carbonation or the sugar. And, as anti Southern as it is, I don't drink sweet iced tea either. Caffeine and sugar and the ice sets my teeth on edge.
I see people all around me being able to get through the day and night by sucking down the caffeine. I wish I could be one of them. Doesn't caffeine boost metabolism and prevent headaches, give energy? I hear that people everywhere are trying to kick the caffeine habit, but I don't understand this. I'd like to develop one!

Beauty and Attraction

TDB and I were talking yesterday about physical attraction and beauty and how it seems that we are often attracted to the same physical types as we are. For example, TDB is tall with blond hair and blue eyes and a tan, and he likes tall, blond, blue eyed women with tans.

When a man catches my eye, he usually has dark hair. If his eyes are contrasting (gray, blue, green) all the better. Facial hair is a MUST.
Gerry Butler is my main squeeze. He meets all of my requirements. I would betray my wedding vows for him.
When a woman catches my eye, she always has long hair and it's usually curly. She's also either a brunette or a redhead and she is fair skinned. They look like what I want to look like.
These three are nearly enough to make me bat for the other side.

Sporadic Sleep
I don't sleep. I doze. On a good night, I am physically out of bed 3 times. Last night I was physically out of bed 10 times in 8 hours.
Lina is sick. Even if she is resting peacefully, my mommy radar goes off and demands that I make sure she is okay. She has asthma, so often has a rough time of things.
I remember when Thumbelina was first born. She had to stay in the hospital for three weeks due to prematurity. I was determined to breast feed, so I had an intimate relationship with a breast pump. I set the alarm to get up and pump so my milk supply would be full and ready for her when she came home from the hospital. I remember that I literally cried in the middle of the night because I knew I would never again sleep like I did before I became a mother.
By the time Huck was born, I was so used to not sleeping that it was par for the course. I just assumed that I wouldn't sleep. I went to bed, curled up around my snuggle pillow, knowing that I would get up the first time in about an hour and a half.
It's been over 10 years, and it still isn't any better. I still curl around my snuggle pillow and assume that I will be up in about an hour and a half, and I'm usually correct. If it isn't somebody being sick, it's somebody having a bad dream or somebody just waking up and wanting their mama and crawling in the bed with me and squirming or playing with my hair. Or two somebodies doing that. Maybe my dog needs to go pee. But "the mama" is the one who hears everything and takes care of everything during the night.
Of course it is exhausting. But it is also a blessing. The instant my children awaken, they think of me and want to find me and be where I am.

Potter Puppet Pals - Bohemian Polka
This is Weird Al's version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
Al calls it Bohemian Polka. I have shown him Queen's version many times, but there is apparently something about the tuba and the accordion that makes Huck's heart go pitter patter. Throw in the Potter puppet pals and he is in Heaven!
Any way the wind, any way the wind, any way the wind blows. Hey!

Prom Themes
This morning while taking the kids to school, I was listening to "sad FM for the over 30s" (as Bridget Jones refers to Easy Listening/Light Rock). Lo and Behold, My Junior Prom theme came on the radio and it took me back. And made me giggle just to picture the whole thing. The year was 1990.
My prom theme was "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart. The painted/airbrushed background in front of which everyone stood to get their pictures taken? A carousel horse, complete with long flowing ribbons. Yikes! I wore a peach satin tea length dress. Can you imagine me in peach? Satin shoes dyed to match. And a lacy and pearly hair bow with peach ribbon. My date wore a white tuxedo with, you guessed, a peach cummerbund and peach bowtie. And white shoes, of course. Oh, and I carried a little lacy peach pearly bouquet.
Oh. My. God.
So tell me about your prom themes. Or better yet, make a blog post about it complete with prom picture. I would have put my picture here but I don't have any of them. Praise be.

MMmmmmm....

I could write poetry about sardines. I eat them EVERY DAY. For breakfast. With Rosemary and Olive Oil Triscuits and a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. Really. I like them from Family Dollar at 53 cents a can, in Louisiana Hot Sauce. And then I add probably 20 drops of Tabasco to that. Really. Apparently I have a cast iron stomach.
What's not to love? 110 calories. 60% of the calcium I need a day. 19 grams protein.
And, BTW, don't answer that question of "what's not to love? Headless fish...I know. And Chris refuses to kiss me after I've eaten them. He says I have fish breath. But, YUM!
