Jury Duty

I am so jealous. Both Chris AND Sweet Bruhver, who doesn't even live here and hasn't voted in an election in Alabama since perhaps 1995, were called for jury duty starting today. Okay, what are the odds? My brother and my husband, for the same week? What about me? ME? I want jury duty! My mom has done it and my dad has done it, and I'm the one who wants to do it!

I have voted in every election, primaries included for nearly 18 years. The legal system fascinates me, and I want to do my civic duty. Why do I never get jury summons? And, Chris is summoned for criminal trials and was in the next pool for the local trial that is so huge it has even been on CBS! Oh, if only he could have been chosen for that, then I could have experienced it vicariously (de post facto, of course).

I got called for jury duty for the first time last year. Yawn. What a collosal disappointment! I spent the entire day, along with 50 other people, sitting in a room waiting to be called...and never being called. We were dismissed after eight hours with just a thank-you and a lunch voucher. I didn't feel very civic at all.

OMG...I thought I was the only one who WANTED jury duty! Almost everyone I know has been called.

I like to think that the universe is waiting to put me in a trial where the accused is actually innocent (or not guilty, as it were) and I'm the only one who can see it. It will be like "12 Angry Men" and I'll change everyone's mind...or at the very least I'll hang the jury.

That's so funny.--I was just chosen today to sit for a civil suit.--In fact I"ve already started investigative work for it.

We'll just have to create our own court trial during the intermission of our joint recital.--Hmmm.....what diva will be suing whom for approximatura voice instruction. Or shall we create a murder for dramatic effect--opera in the courtroom, opera in the courtroom.

Ooo.....that was cheesy.

I was on a jury once. It was actually a positive experience. It was kind of a power trip.

I had never voted when I was called last year. I didn't want to do it at first, but once I was picked out of the million people waiting around in the pool, I loved it.
It was an attempted murder trial. They were both guilty as sin, but we had to find him not guilty of stabbing the woman because the police had never found the screwdriver they said he used. The hospital threw away her coat and clothes, and no two witnesses saw the same thing. No evidence, no witnesses and she sat there still proclaiming her LOOOOVE for him even though they said he had stabbed her four times in the sides and the arms with a screwdriver. Insanity.
But I'd do it again.

I've been called once, when I still lived in Alabama. I ended up on the grand jury. It was an interesting week. The first two days were nothing but drug cases, and then check fraud (its always fun when someone you went to high school with is going to trial for check fraud lol) and we ended with 3 murder cases. One involving a shotgun and lots of gory crime scene pics and two drunk driving cases. One we dismissed, the other we sent on. It was that woman that plowed into a minivan in Lacey Springs and killed like 5 kids. Don't know if you remember it as its been about 10 yrs ago.

Oddly enough, my neighbor was called for jury duty this week, and she's freaking out because her ex is out of town and there won't be anyone to answer the phone if her kid's school calls. I told her to give them my number. The manwhore took her to school this morning, too, when he took the girls.

I told neighbor lady if its a murder trial to tell them she supports the death penalty, because they say that's an almost sure fire way to get dismissed. lol

Trust me when I say that you aren't missing a thing. I've been called twice for jury duty.

Both times I ended up sitting in a room full of people all day and being sent home. BOOOOOOORING!!!!

Holy cow! I've always wanted jury duty! Tony's done it a couple of times and Mom's done it. I just sit and wait. Oh well. With all of the CSI and NCIS that I watch, I'm sure I'd be a stellar juror :-)

Peach. That is one of the questions they asked us when trying to pick the jury. They wanted to know what crime shows we all watched. And I bet 99% of the pool said NCIS and CSI. lol. The lawyers and judge all laughed by the end.
