My dear friend TDB had a birthday party this weekend. His gorgeous house was built in the 1930s so he themed his party as the end of prohibition. The birthday boy himself dressed as none other than Boo Radley, from one of my favorite books "To Kill a Mockingbird". In fact, I like his house so much that it is one of my happy places when I am having trouble sleeping. Of course, in my happy place, it's mine and not his, and there is a harp in the place where his foosball table is, but, hey, it's my imagination and I can do whatever I want.
There were about 30 people at the party. They ranged from hippies to airline pilots to construction workers to mothers of his friends. There were women dry humping their men and pretending to spank them (and you know who you are) and Real Live CSIs (who said it's nothing at all like the TV show) and folks who knew every word to every song that was played (myself included) and even a lady who could see dead people. None of them could believe that Chris and I have been married 14 years and have a 10 year old and an 8 year old, which was really flattering.
It was really great, and Chris and I got home at 2:30 AM and were asleep by 2:31 AM which I suppose shows our age after all...

What a beautiful little cottage!
I assume the photo is recent which gives me reason to hate y'all in the south some more.
Color. You have it and I don't. Nary a crocus nor tulip yet to be seen.
My sister did buy a planter of pansies for the porch of Woodside Cottage.
Sigh.
Actually, this photo was taken in late October. But when we were there this weekend there were blooming dogwoods and easter egg colored tulips.
What a beautifully well planned, painted, landscaped, and photographed home! I bet the owner is just as impressive, but in the same humbly elegant and understated way. I am in awe of this person's brilliance, artistry, and humility. I somehow feel a deep rooted connection with him, as I bask in his glory. I think we should all aspire to be like him and in the mean time do exactly what he tells us to do. He should be given a key to the Playboy Mansion, a Swedish harem, and free ice cream for life. Well, for starters anyway.........
Don't you LOVE parties like that? A great mix of people, good food, good song, good drink. It can't be beat!
2:30?!! Lord, I haven't seen 11:30 in years, never mind 2:30!
Sigh. I'm old....
To TN DBL BARREL: Handsome, regal, majestic, cuddly, yes, yes, that's me to a T.... (Read that in your best Disney Prince John voice from Robin Hood) LOL I've never met you, but our mutual friend thinks very highly of you. Your house looks great, and I hope you had a b'day to remember. :)
The boo radley thing is pretty cool, though when I first read the headline I assumed you mean the band by that name.
I can't find your email address anywhere on your blog and I want to send you something.
So sorry I missed it! I would gladly have traded the drudgery I had to endure for a fab party at TDB's. Was bighot CopRobert there? And hey, is that my picture that I took of his house?
TKAM is my best book, EVER! Sounds like a great party.
I, too, imagine myself in other people's houses. I especially did this as a teen. There were two houses, one in the town in Crosby and one just outside the town that I built lives in, as we drove by them every single Saturday.
I am lusting after that house. How gorgeous! I'm glad you had a great time at the party - doncha love a good party?
