I know that this is small potatoes in the scope of, well, everything. But I can't tolerate caffeine. 1/2 a serving of green tea and my hands are shaking and I have heart palpitations. A full cup of regular strength coffee and I can't even hold a pen to write my name. I really hate this. Coffee can be such a glorious thing. The smell, the taste, the jolt of energy. But I can't do it. I can drink decaf coffee, but I have heard icky stuff about the process of decaffeinating coffee. Crazy things like cat litter and, I don't know, formaldehyde and stuff. Is it true? Is decaf coffee really bad for you?
I don't drink Cokes either. In the South, all carbonated beverages are called Cokes. Sue me, you know what I mean. I don't like the caffeine, the carbonation or the sugar. And, as anti Southern as it is, I don't drink sweet iced tea either. Caffeine and sugar and the ice sets my teeth on edge.
I see people all around me being able to get through the day and night by sucking down the caffeine. I wish I could be one of them. Doesn't caffeine boost metabolism and prevent headaches, give energy? I hear that people everywhere are trying to kick the caffeine habit, but I don't understand this. I'd like to develop one!

Coffee is nasty tasting stuff that you're better off avoiding... ;)
I enjoy caffeine sometimes because it will give me a short term energy boost and feeling of creative energy.
However, I've learned to kick the habit because it sucks away energy in the long term.
It seems as if you may be an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), based on what you wrote.--Well the world needs more HSP's, not fewer!
=)
What are you talking about, you used to be a big coffee drinker before you were a wino. Is that what this is really all about? The caffeine gets in the way of your alcoholic consumption?
I drink tea every morning, not for caffeine but because it is good for me (and I really love the taste.)
That said, if I drink someone more then my cup (rarely two cups) I get so irritable and jittery that my teeth sometimes even chatter.
There are lots of other yummy things to drink though, like juice! Wait, are you the one who doesn't like fruit?
-TY, I love the taste of coffee.
-Tenore, I am HSP. Good call.
-Sweet Bruhver, caffeine started to mess with me when Lina was in my tummy, long before I became a wino :-) I haven't been able to tolerate it since then.
-Jaspanelle, I can drink ice cold water that is faintly beige with green tea and/or white tea. Fortunately I love milk and drink lots of it as well. And of course, there is the chardonnay...
Get this...I can't really tolerate caffeine unless I am using it for medicinal purposes...like for a headache that pain relievers wont cure. Normally, it makes me all jumpy too. But if I have a headache, it does not. I credit the beauty of the human body to know what it needs and it's ability to sort out the bad medicine from the good.
And honey...I just LOVE a good glass of Southern Sweet Tea.
The whole intolerence to caffine started in my 30's. Now I drink decaf green tea. . full strength black tea gives me a jolt.
