Buttercups and Sleet

The earth is confused here in Alabama. Goldenrod is beginning to bloom. There are buds on many of the trees and there are clusters of buttercups (daffodils to you Yankees), but this evening it's 39 degrees and sleeting.

Goldenrod? Like our ND fall-blooming flower?

To us in ND and MN, buttercups are marsh marigolds. But by another other name, a daffodil would seem as sweet.

We will not have a glimpse of them until April.

Woman, it is 25 freaking degrees and snowing here. And some of the buttercups are a-bloomin'. The kids are out of school, even.

At that split moment
where the insight surfaced
the earth revolved around you...

In spite of hailstorm of
illness in Nestlewood
there is a soprano in bloom...

Blessed be the beasts of breath
and beauteous slumber.

julie, I call it goldenrod, but I can't swear that's its actual name. It looks like a bush with teeny yellow flowers on it.

Tenore, can you email me? nimbus1108 at yahoo dot com.

My dear, I think you are talking about forsythia bushes. Goldenrod is a weed, not a bush.

amanda, you very well may be right. Blame it on Chris' mom. She's the one who taught me to call it goldenrod :-)

I only know because I love them and have one in my yard. ;)

Goldenrod is not a weed! It is a beautiful fall WILDFLOWER. And - as rumored for many years - it is not the cause of fall hayfever/allergies. That is ragweed.

I know what forsythia is - I saw it during a spring in Denver and it is fabulous. We have a few feeble forsythia bushes here in Bismarck but they really are not suited to our climate.
