Our Son. We're So Proud of Him

Huck got an mp3 player from his grandparents. Here are the artists on his playlist:

Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard, Ronnie James Dio, Journey, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, Matchbox 20, Meatloaf,Metallica, Nickelback, Ozzy Osborne, Chumbawumba, Smash Mouth, Weird Al Yankovic, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Eddy Grant, Van Halen, Blondie, Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Daniel Powter, Heart, Incubus, J. Giles Band, The Knack, The Transformers Soundtrack, Stone Temple Pilots, White Lion , Bachman Turner Overdrive, and War.

How did he get this playlist, you may ask? He wrote out what sorts of stuff he wanted. And, as I know my son, I pulled from my playlist of things I thought he would like. And I was right. It's like he is drugged or something. He is sitting on the couch, listening to his Zen ( the mp3 player).

You have to understand that Huck NEVER voluntarily sits anywhere. He may dive onto the couch and squirm all over it. He may jump on it. But, to my knowledge, he has never just sat on it. And! He cleaned his room this morning, without a gripe, because of his Zen.

It's almost as though he is sedated. Chris was commenting about just that thing and I said "but, do you know what is in his mp3? It's hardly soothing stuff."

I suppose "soothing" is in the ear of the listener.

Zen, indeed.

Our youngest son is also a high energy type that finds the loud...soothing. He likes Seether, Staind, The Kinks, Nickelback, Linkin Park with Jay-Z...you get the idea. Anything I would use to headbang/thrash...makes him sit still. On the flip side...Vivaldi, Bach, Enya...make him all squirmy. He is a mystery.

As I've always said, "Nothing says heterosexuality like war and speed metal."

I'll make Huck a mix CD that I will send along with your copy of The Dirty Boy Sing-a-long.

I am relieved to hear that it is finally cold at Nestlewood. Any more talk of you in bare feet and spaghetti straps might set me to weepin'.

My kids, listen to an eclectic bunch of songs too. Everything from the Ten Tenors, to Garth Brooks, to The White Stripes.

If it makes him happy, then let him to it.
